Understanding The Mental aspect of Pitching

By James J. Lathon
I don't pretend to be or call myself a pitching coach but I do have a mental understanding of the game of baseball from the pitching perspective. Pitching is central and important part of this game of baseball and softball. Without good pitching just consider yourself as throwing batting practice for the opposing and visiting team. But if you understand the mental and the batter mental psychic the opposing hitters, most pitchers can get outs against even the best batters if they have control or a good command of their out pitches.
One of the great pitcher I have admire, is Jamie Moyer, who at the age of 49 is still pitching with success today, Jamie has become the oldest pitcher to win a game. Because Jamie studies, understands the each opposing hitters. He has faced He has kept a log on batters he has face throughout the years. He is not an overpowering pitcher his fastball top out around 87-89 mph but he has an out pitch, the circle change.
Here is the mental aspect; every batter wants to hit the ball. So they sometime becomes impatience causes them to not wait on their pitches or a hittable pitch. Thus they winging at a bad pitch resulting in an out either by striking out or grounding out in to a double play.
Many of youth today have not study and do not study, or received; this information that I'm giving you. To understand this valuable information, such as changing speed, location or the eye level of the batter inside and outside the strike zone all contribute to a pitcher's success along with a good defense behind him.
The game of baseball is mental, similar to a game of chess. The pitcher is trying to figure what batter or hitting is looking for and the hitting is doing the same. Hence the mental match up of the game of baseball. If you are to be a good pitcher, one must have command of his pitches be able to locate the ball, and willing to be a student of this game. This is how success can and is often accomplish.
Hard work will always pay off one must believe they can and will accomplish their goals and realize their dream. So become a student watch the game listen to announcer as they explain the insides and outs of this beautiful game we love and call America past time sport baseball there is nothing like it.
